Why did you decide to join DHCF?

I’ve always enjoyed working out. I had been faithfully attending 5:30am spin classes for a couple years but was getting a little bored and was also looking for more variety to my workout. A friend had just started at DHCF and suggested that I try it. My original intent was to stick with spinning a couple days a week and supplement with CF on the other days. That didn’t last long, as I quickly got hooked on CF and traded my spin membership for an unlimited DHCF one instead!

What has been your most memorable achievement at DHCF?

As cheesy as it sounds, there are memorable achievements all the time at DHCF…times when I thought I couldn’t do something and then surprised myself. I definitely remember the first time I did a whole WOD with CF-standard push-ups (no box!). That was a goal that I worked hard to reach last year. Even though push-ups are still one of the hardest things for me, it is rewarding to see and feel improvement. It makes you realize that hard work really does pay off!

Do you have a favorite WOD or movement?

I enjoy WOD’s that have a mix of cardio and weight-training (like box jumps/running/rowing combined with one or two of the Olympic lifts). They tend to be tough but leave me with an awesome feeling afterwards. I usually have major WOD anxiety before every WOD, but LOVE the adrenaline rush I experience when I finish.  There is no better way to start the day!

What words of encouragement would you offer a new Elements graduate?

If I can do it, you can do it! I work full-time, have two school-age kids, and was never an athlete, ever, and I am amazed at what CF has done for my physical and mental health. I would recommend heeding the advice of Keith & Beth, but also listening to your own body. Don’t be intimidated…DHCF is an awesome community with great members who will support and encourage you every step of the way.

How has CrossFitting with your spouse impacted your relationship?

Couples that CrossFit together, stay together! Ever since I convinced my husband to join, CF has really become a shared interest between the two of us.  We practice together at home or while on vacation, and we get the kids involved too. We are always trying to beat each other’s score…the friendly competition is fun (although I will admit that he is getting tough to beat!). I wish we could do more WOD’s together at DHCF but hopefully when our kids get a little older that might be possible.

When did you first fall for JBJ? Are you a country music fan? What do you think of JBJ’s duet with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland?

I am NOT a country music fan! I have always loved JBJ, and like a fine wine, he just keeps getting better with age! His duet with Jennifer Nettles was good, and I’ve seen them sing it live and they are excellent together. I just prefer him by himself…heck, I’d like him all to myself too!
