What is your favorite class time?
I like 5:30pm. It let’s me blow off some steam from work and come home relaxed. If I’m not working that day, 7am is a great way to start my day.
What is your favorite cross fit movement?
I like the push jerk. It’s such a smooth, fluid movement that combines both power and speed.
What did you think of your first CrossFit experience?
It was before Elements and I did a drop in. The WOD was a few rounds of 400m run and 100m walking lunges. I couldn’t walk right for a few days, but I totally enjoyed it and knew then that this was for me.
What do you feel is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment?
I think my biggest accomplishment by far was squat cleaning 135# 7 times during the opens. I remember watching that announcement and telling my wife that I was done after the 2nd round that week. There was no way I could clean 135# even once. I went ahead and did it 7 times! That was definitely my biggest accomplishment.
What advice would you offer to someone just finishing Elements or thinking about trying CrossFit?
Start slowly and never give up. The weights listed on the board might seem intimidating at first, but don’t let it discourage you because CrossFit is VERY adaptable to all abilities. I was a “flavor of the month” workout guy – I have a Bowflex in my basement and P90X DVD’s in my drawer. Those lasted 3-4 months. I’ve been at Diamond Hill for 18 months and still loving it. Each day is a different challenge and a different movement and you will notice changes in strength, flexibility, and overall well-being in a short amount of time.
What do you do when not at CrossFit?
When I’m not at CrossFit, I enjoy family time with my wife and kids, skiing in the winter, hitting the beach in the summer, training for Tough Mudders in the spring and hopefully for another Mudder this fall.
