What is your favorite class time?
My favorite class times were definitely the 5:30pm and 7:30pm. If I was still there though, I think the new 6:30pm would have been my new class time.
What is your favorite cross fit movement?
I hate them all equally! If I had to choose, I would say any of the body weight exercises. Pushups, pullups etc..
What did you think of your first CrossFit experience?
DHCF wasn’t my first crossfit experience, but I will say it is one of the best community based gyms I have been a part of. The people that I met there were extremely friendly and welcoming.
What do you feel is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment?
For me, I saw my biggest improvements in weight lifting. When I first started doing crossfit, I had no experience with weights. I have always been more of a cardio guy. Swimming, biking and running. I am still not able to RX every workout, but I have definitely come a long way from when I first started.
What advice would you offer to someone just finishing Elements or thinking about trying CrossFit?
I would say stick with and start light. It won’t happen overnight, but if you come in regularly and give it your best effort, you will be amazed at what you are capable of doing. Also, don’t get hung up on what the guy/gal next to you is putting on their bar. I love that CrossFit creates a competitive environment, but don’t lose sight of the goal, which is your own fitness and health. At the end of the day, you are the one that will have to live with an injury if you don’t know your own limits.
What do you do when not at CrossFit?
A lot of my time is devoted to my family and the Coast Guard. My wife and I have two kids, 9 and 5, so that takes up a majority of our free time. I also enjoy mountain biking and snowboarding in the appropriate seasons when I can sneak it in.
