Importance of fiber

Dietary fiber, also known as roughage or bulk, includes the parts of plant foods your body can’t digest or absorb. Unlike other food components, such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates — which your body breaks down and absorbs — fiber isn’t digested by your body. Instead, it passes relatively intact through your stomach, small intestine and colon and out of your body.

Soluable fiber which can help lower blood glucose levels can be found in broccoli, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, figs, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds

Insoluable fiber which helps to keep digestive system running smoothly can be found in kale, spinach, lettuce, beans, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

You should aim to have about  25-30 grams per day from food sources.
